(42) Traditional cheeses are the obvious choice for the planet!

In view of a few things that happened recently, I can only be reassured by the above statement. My reasoning have evolved through age and experience, and as well understanding. The main problem is the state of the Earth and what we are doing, or not, about it. This is aggravated by the evolution of the world population, only a generation ago we were a billion less, this is way too much and way too fast.

Very old family picture (I did not take it!)

The reason for this argument is that we have difficulty in feeding ourselves correctly without creating extra pollution. When we take into consideration the actual state of the planet, drought, famine, rising water level, extraordinary damaging weather conditions and events, I am remembering of some of the images that the TV news show whenever one of these events happen outside of the western world. By this I mean that we are shown some recently affluent families who have loss almost everything in very dire circumstances. They cling to each other, and good for them as they should, but I am always surprised by the fact that these families have four or five, and sometimes more, children to feed when they have so many problems already that they can not look after them in any correct way.

The first duty of a parent should be to be responsible for their child and ensure that he is well looked after and cared for, not to produce offspring every other year in the hope that everything will be fine, God willing (whichever you and them pray to). Of course, it is so tragic for the children, they do not deserve to suffer for their parents’ urges; and so many charities profit by it.

Why do I feel that you do not like the last few words? Well, to be honest you might, but think about the reasons first. I am sure that once the kids are born, they are happy and try to care for them and love them, but ultimately this is a game of resources and possibilities. Why is the last point the important one?

All the charities should concentrate on this: possibilities, as well as all the states concerned, after all they all have a voice at the UN and at the climate forums. To bring possibilities to their people they should bring them education. By this I mean more than just ABC, but reasoning and technology and the possibilities for their people to built up their own states, to contributes more to the state of the world in a positive way, preferably democratically and sustainably. Why might you say bother with that? Well, this might just help to help migrant crisis and a few conflicts for erupting. If you learn from the history of the western world, you do realise that with higher level of education comes prosperity and a better level of population growth with good care provided. Of course, we should still fight the tyrants and despots who crave on problems that they create for the misery of others…

After all it took two millennia and a half at least for cheese to be respected as good food in our world, if we wait a bit more humans might have disappeared and we are not ready to conquer space yet, so maybe we should concentrate on our world and bring democratic education for the benefit of all. Then we might realise that with cheap goods produced at the other end of the world we create another kind of problem and extra pollution, we do not know how to make this goods at home anymore (but here I diverge).

We have evolved to have trouble with our own bodies, we need exercise and watch our intake (I am not very good myself because of motivation). So, why is cheese important compared to all that?

Traditional cheese is the product of long history and has been proven beneficial in many levels. Obviously, it tastes good and many people like it; just appreciate it part of a good diet with moderate exercise and make it part of your well-being. It can be part of many dishes, it has many faces and shapes, you can never be bored with it. It is made from milk obtained from animals that are well tended and cared for. In turn these maintain many places that need looked after, the animals contribute and the farmers do their bit for the land. Traditional cheese is mostly sustainable and eco-conscious, it brings a tiny bit of wealth to corners of the land where it is needed and brings pleasure to millions of people who eat them.

So, there you have it, enjoy some traditional cheese and help save the planet!
